The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

If our dentists Dr. John Lynch, Dr. Sheila Lynch, and Dr. Frances Lynch at Lynch Dental Center in River Forest, IL, and Chicago, IL, have found a cavity during your last checkup it will need to be taken care of to prevent the decay from spreading. Once the tooth has been treated and the decayed areas of the tooth have been removed we will need to restore the tooth with a dental filling. The most commonly used dental filling is made from a composite resin.

About Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings blend right in with the rest of the tooth. We know that this type of filling is ideal for many of our patients. They can feel confident knowing that when they smile no one will even be able to see their restoration.

A filling is placed the same time as a cavity is removed. Placing a tooth-colored filling is easy. The resin that we use is moldable. First, we will choose the shade of resin that most closely matches your tooth. From there, we will apply a thin layer of resin and shape it over the parts of the tooth that we need to rebuild. Once the layer is trimmed and shaped we will harden it into place with a dental light. We will continue to apply the resin in layers until the tooth is fully restored.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Some of the benefits of a tooth-colored filling include,

  • Restoring and strengthening a tooth after a cavity
  • Improving the appearance and shape of the tooth
  • Preserving more of the healthy natural tooth structure
  • Improving your bite to prevent excess wear and tear on certain teeth
