Get A Straighter Smile With Invisalign

Want to know the clear difference when it comes to getting Invisalign instead of braces?

When people consider the different orthodontic treatment options out there many of them are intrigued by Invisalign and how a completely clear system could shift their teeth into the perfect alignment; however, one question that our River Forest, IL, dentists Drs. John, Sheila, and Frances Lynch often hear is “how does Invisalign work?” No, it’s not magic (even though it might seem like magic). Here’s how these aligners straighten teeth.

How Invisalign Works

Instead of using interconnected brackets and wires to shift teeth into place, Invisalign uses a set of completely clear aligners that look similar to retainers and cover over the teeth to shift them into place. Of course, for treatment to work, you will need to wear your aligners for most of the day (aim for 22 hours), only removing them to eat, drink, brush and floss. You will also change your aligners every two weeks for a new set. Depending on the type and extent of your dental issues, Invisalign treatment can take anywhere from 9 months to one year.

The Invisalign Treatment Process

First, you will want to come in to see our dentist for a consultation to determine whether or not Invisalign is right for you. Our dental team has received specialized instruction to be able to provide Invisalign treatment to older teens and adults living in and around River Forest and Chicago, IL, with this unique orthodontic treatment.

During the beginning stages, our dentist will take digital scans of your teeth, which will be uploaded onto the computer to map out every tooth movement that will need to occur during your treatment. From this data, an Invisalign dental lab will create custom-fitted aligners, which will control the force and timing of the force to shift teeth little by little with every set of aligners. Invisalign can handle a wide range of dental problems including,

  • Crowding
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
